High school of elitism in Korea

Pann: A school uniform at a Korean high school

Korean Minjok Leadership Academy (KMLA) where you have to get extremely high grades in middle school to get in

1. [+411, -22] Not just "extremely high grades", but you have to be fucking amazingly good at studying. The worst university they get into is Seoul University. In their library books, there are cursing doodles like "if you read this book, you'll end up at Seoul University"

2. [+289, -4] You also have to have a lot of money. Even if you're smart, you can't get in if you don't have money

3. [+248, -4] Being good at studying is not enough. Even if you're the no.1 top student from you school, you still won't get in. You also have to go to a top middle school

4. [+120, -1] My tutor teacher went to the high school and he was the worst student in the entire school. But he got into Seoul University

5. [+102, -1] Unlike their hanbok uniforms, more than half of the students are aiming for Ivy League. They're rich kids where immigration and studying aboard are a must

6. [+83, -1] Someone I know went to the high school and she got into Korea University. People were like "tsk tsk how did you end up in Korea University~" so she's talking an extra year in the high school. Their class is just amazing

7. [+80, -4] There's a legend where if a student gets into Yonsei or Korea University, they can't even hang out with their high school friends because it's too embarrassing

8. [+71, -0] I went to New York and went to see a musical at Broadway. Then a bunch of students in hanbok were coming so I asked them. They were from the high school and they said they're on a school trip

9. [+63, -0] My cousin graduated from the high school four years ago. She graduated a university of Ivy League and she's attending a grad school at Harvard... If you go to that high school and you get into a Korean university, they'll really look down at you. According to my cousin, you have to get into Ivy League at least

10. [+54, -3] I had a friend who went to the high school. She had an amazing memory so she could erase a page of a history book and rewrite the content of the entire page
